Each time I think of this horrible company, my heart rate rapidly increases, like 120 beats per minute. It makes my blood boil and I MUST write about it and share.
Last December, my Mother sent a package from Taiwan to me. I carefully wrote my address in Berlin, and she went to the post office and sent it for me, an international package from Taiwan to Germany isn't very cheap, it costs almost 60 Euro for this package. But it was alright- it was full of Christmas presents I packed for my friends and family of my boyfriend in Germany. Well, it was alright to pay so much if I would have received the package.
After waiting for a long time, of course, as we know how DHL is like in Berlin, my beloved package never showed up. In case you weren't familiar with this delivery company DHL, just google a few keywords and you will find tons of reviews and posts about their poor services.
One day, approximately on the days I was supposed to receive the package, I saw a yellow truck with red DHL sign parking outside my flat. I thought to myself:"Could it be it? Is it IT? Had my package finally arrive Berlin?!"
But I had not heard my doorbell rang, and I was home the whole day. The DHL truck left our street after a few minutes. My mailbox was empty and the door had no sign of any notes from anyone.
Well, I had my tracking number, so I went on the website and checked what the hxxk is going on with my package. It showed, on the same day I saw this truck, the recipient of the parcel was unknown, perhaps no name on the doorbell or mailbox.
That's pretty strange. Since we've received plenty of mails and package with the name clearly ON THE DOORBELL and MAILBOX.
I wonder what happened to the delivery person? Had he/she not seen the sticker there? Or had he or she really left the truck and even bothered to take a look of the lists of the name? Isn't it their job? If you refuse to get out of that yellow truck and take a look of your clients doorbell names, instead of that, only want to drive around in Berlin, then you should probably apply for a job at BVG?
The name tags were on the doorbell and as well on the mailbox. The DHL delivery person didn't even bother to have a look at it and just reports to the system that the name does not exist in the address.
I called several times to DHL hot line service, also another horrible department from this company. I was transferred to many different lines because no one from them could solve my problem. After wasting an hour on the phone, and got super pissed off, I decided to track again in the next days, hoping somehow the package will return to me..
BUT IT DID NOT!! The website showed that my package was later transferred to a small village near Frankfurt. I called again, of course, the customers service told me:"I already made a report and please wait for a few days, it might be sent back to Berlin again." I offered to pick up my package in Frankfurt myself, and they told me it isn't allowed. I was so mad, so mad! I asked what else could I do in the meantime, the customers service agent gave me a german word:
-
"Abwarten."
-
Ab..was?
My head and my ears and my organs inner me had almost exploded and I was totally on fire to yell out loud.
Well, apparently it is a highly requested skill, if you ever want to survive in Germany.
The English translation of this word is- to wait.
My other two german flatmates were sitting right next to me in the kitchen while I was on the phone, it was on the speaker so everyone could hear. And everyone, was, so, mad!!!
I gave up my parcel, it was almost Christmas and I had to re-shopping in Berlin. I tried to forget about this episode and move on my life. What else can you do when you have to deal with companies like DHL, right? They don't care about their customers and employees.
Just a few days ago, my Mother called me, she was informed to go to the post office in Taiwan and receive the returned package. She sent me a picture of the box and it looked slightly different from when I packed it. There were a lot more stickers which were written in german language.
How exotic my package is now traveled in Germany just like my suitcase! Except for that I never asked for it. I had to pay almost extra 100 euros because my package was sent back to Taiwan from Germany again. That is ridiculous! Because of DHL did not do their job and I had to pay so much money on my own? Each new sticker on my box, means that there will be a fee charged, according to the post office in Taiwan.
So, is it a game which designed by DHL to trick their customers' money? There was nothing I could do to save the situation except for calling and calling. Someone had suggested me to write my experience and post it on social media, so DHL might offer the compensation.
Last suggestion about sending/receiving packages in Berlin? Go to Hermes or GLS if you could choose. They have awesome customer service and reviews. Thanks for reading, any tips about it would be appreciated. German and Chinese version of this article will come out soon, so more people can learn about it.
